The search for a missing teacher at Crawford Bay has been suspended.
RCMP say the search ended this afternoon after seven days of extensive efforts.
Over the weekend, 14 search and rescue teams with 87 technicians from across the province joined the search from Creston, Castlegar, Nelson, Rossland, Kimberley, Kaslo, Sparwood, Oliver/Osoyoos, Central Okanagan, Revelstoke, Elkford, Cranbrook, Penticton, Princeton, plus the Riondel fire department.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a news release that “numerous” resources were called in included fixed wing aircraft and helicopter, dogs, an underwater recovery team and members from area RCMP detachments.
This weekend saw about 60 community volunteers from the East Shore help in the search, organized by the school and Kootenay Lake school district, following a groundswell of support for Dunic’s family.
To date no sign of Mr. Dunic has been located and we have completed an extensive search of both ground and water in the area,” Moskaluk said.
It is suspected that Mr. Dunic had fallen into Crawford Creek and perished. It is estimated, that approximately 3,300 total manhours have been logged this week by the collective group. The levels in Crawford Creek will be closely monitored over the coming days, and further search efforts will be re-assessed.
Creston RCMP and RCMP victim services continues to provide support to Dunic’s family and the community.
