The Regional District of Central Kootenay has approved the purchase of a Structure Protection Unit for the Canyon-Lister Fire Department.
The portable units are set up in advance of wildfires to protect communities. Deputy Chief Brad Burnett says they’re used during wildfire season.
The RDCK approved the purchase of the unit for $70,000. It’s financed through funds earned from the Canyon-Lister Volunteer Fire Department’s assistance during the 2017 wildfire season.
Burnett says this is their second unit.
During last summers wildfire season Canyon-Lister volunteer fire fighters were deployed to help in Salmo and around Cranbrook.
