RCMP respond to high volume of calls last week

Creston RCMP responded to 79 calls for assistance from April 17th to April 24th.

According to S/Sgt Ryan Currie:

April 17, 2018

  • Police responded to a call of gunshots near Wynndel. Upon investigation it was found that no law had been broken. The complainant was concerned that shooting a firearm in rural areas was legal.
  • After recognizing a vehicle of a known suspended driver operating near Erickson, police stopped the vehicle, and found that the suspended driver had been drinking. Charges of drive while suspended and impaired driving are pending.

April 18, 2018

  • Police were called to intervene in a domestic violence situation. The suspect was arrested and charges are pending.
  • A child walking in Riondel observed a white van with two occupants wearing rubber “Homer Simpson” masks. The suspicious occupants did not say or do anything to the child, but the child was scared by the occurrence.
  • Creston RCMP were called to assist Kingsgate CBSA with a subject that had been refused entry into the US due to illicit drug consumption. The subject was not impaired as to be a concern, and was allowed to re-enter Canada and go on his way.

April 19, 2018

  • Police were again called to a complaint of gunshots in Wynndel. Investigation revealed that the shooter was safely shooting targets.
  • Police were called to intervene in a neighbour dispute over tree trimming in Kitchener. The argument escalated to the point of threats of being “bear sprayed”. Upon police attendance, the matter was diffused.
  • Police were called to investigate a domestic assault in Erickson. The suspect was located in a vehicle, and also appeared to have been drinking. A driving suspension and assault charges are pending against the suspect.
  • Police were called to another domestic assault in Creston. The suspect was arrested and charges are pending.

April 20, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate a domestic assault in Creston. The parties were separated at the time. Investigation is continuing.
  • Police received a report of a child littering from a vehicle on Northwest Boulevard in Creston.
  • Police were called regarding an unknown vehicle driving on the school grounds in Wynndel. No licence plate or description of the vehicle were obtained by the witness. No further information was received on the vehicle that did extensive damage to the school yard. Police continue to attempt to identify a suspect.
  • Police were called to intervene in a neighbour dispute. No criminal act was found.
  • Police were called to locate an individual who was believed to be in mental distress. Upon locating the individual, no issue was noted.
  • Police responded to four disturbance complaints involving alcohol on this date as well.

April 21, 2018

  • Police were called to assist with a domestic situation in which there had been a suspected breach of no contact conditions.

April 22, 2018

  • Police were called to assist with a report of a domestic assault in Creston. Upon investigation there was no evidence of an assault, but both parties were spoken to regarding behaviour.
  • Police were called to investigate a male and female climbing the Kootenay River Bridge on Highway 3 near West Creston. Police located the couple who thought that climbing the bridge would be interesting. The two were warned regarding alarming motorists with suspicious actions on the bridge.
  • Police were called to assist with dog bite calls in Creston and Erickson.

April 23, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate a concern over a local Creston resident writing and painting offensive content on the exterior of his building. Police spoke to the owner who agreed to paint over the writings.
  • Police were called to deal with two complaints in Erickson and Creston regarding aggressive dogs.
  • Police stopped a vehicle for speeding in Creston and found that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The stop resulted in the driver receiving a three day licence suspension and a vehicle impoundment.
