32nd Annual Focus on Youth Festival kicks off

Students from around the valley are showcasing their talents this week.

The 32nd annual Focus on Youth Festival started today with a concert from Canyon-Lister students at Prince Charles Secondary Theatre. The Art Display theme this year is Artists in our Neighbourhood with work representing the past, present and future.

Organizer Brenda Brucker says the past is represented by art from people who have passed or retired from art. The present and future is represented by a variety of artists in the community.

She says she’s been working with the festival for the past 27 years.

Erickson Elementary student Ashlynn Friesen says her class is singing about three little pigs at a concert at the Prince Charles Theatre.

She says they’ve been rehearsing for almost a month and attendees can look forward to a unique performance from her class.

A full schedule of all the performances this week can be found on the Creston Valley Music Teachers Association website. The Art Show display is in the Creston Room at the Rec Centre until Thursday, admission is by donation.
