Creston RCMP respond to a variety of calls last week

Creston RCMP responded to 71 calls for assistance between April 24th and 30th. According to Staff Sergeant Ryan Currie:

April 24, 2018

  • Police responded to a hit and run call in Creston involving a tractor trailer. The driver was stopped by police after the collision and advised that he did not think the damage was extensive so he left. The driver was charged.

April 25, 2018

  • Police were called to intervene with a male who was standing on his roof yelling obscenities at people on the street in Creston. Police attended and spoke to the individual who advised that he was trying to warn the public of the dangers of drug use. He agreed to stop yelling after a lengthy discussion with police.

April 26, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate the theft of a debit card between acquaintances. After investigation, there were no grounds to believe any offence occurred. Alcohol or other intoxicating substances may have been a factor.
  • A drinking driver attempting to cross the border into Canada at Rykerts was issued a 24 hour driver’s licence suspension and had to take a cab back to Creston.

April 27, 2018

  • Police were called to investigate a report of an intoxicated man in downtown Creston. When questioned by police, the male stated that he had just been drinking water but refused to let the police see the water bottle. The intoxicated male was arrested and lodged in jail until sober. He was found to be in possession of liquor when searched.
  • Police were called to investigate a complaint that two youth had stolen bicycles. The victim witnessed the two boys take them from her yard. The boys were taken to the RCMP Detachment and turned over to their parents.
  • A cabin renter in Riondel found himself walking home after police found him to be driving after drinking. The driver received a 90 day licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded.

April 28, 2018

  • A speeding vehicle in Crawford Bay was stopped by police, and the driver was found to have been drinking. Breath test resulted in a 3 day licence suspension.
  • Police were called to intervene in a landlord tenant dispute in Erickson.
  • After police observed a male walking with a female who he was to have no contact with, he was arrested for breaching conditions. A search of his person after arrest led to the discovery of illicit drugs. Charges are pending.

April 29, 2018

  • Police were called to intervene in a neighbour dispute in which a concern over driving led to a physical confrontation which then led to property damage in retaliation. Police are investigating to determine the particulars.

April 30, 2018

  • Police were called to assist in a domestic dispute in which two people were arguing with each other. The parties were separated with no further incident.
  • Police are investigating after a Creston resident noted suspicious activity with a male and a stalled truck in Creston. It appears that the suspicious male was in possession of a stolen vehicle and had also stolen other items from the Creston area. The suspect was not found by police at the time. Investigation is continuing.
  • Police were called to investigate a break and enter to a local business. A suspect has been identified.
  • An anonymous complaint of an impaired driver led police to stop a speeding vehicle. The driver had been drinking and was served a 90 day licence suspension and a vehicle impound.
