Flooding in Summit Creek area

The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area is asking residents to avoid the Summit Creek area, Leach Lake unit (beyond Summit Creek), and Corn Creek Marsh north of Highway 3 which they say is heavily flooded.

For Kootenay Lake, FortisBC  is expecting to exceed 1752 feet at Queen’s Bay on Saturday, May 19. By May 29, FortisBC is predicting lake levels will reach 1754 feet. In 2012, the peak level was 1753.8 feet, which has not been exceeded since 1974.

In order to help mitigate peak lake levels, FortisBC has been operating the Kootenay River system at the maximum discharge since the beginning of March and will continue to do so until after the lake peaks.
