Town looks to hold second fire hall referendum in October

Creston Town Council is starting the process to hold a referendum in conjunction with October’s Municipal election. It would seek permission to borrow funds for a new fire hall.

At a special meeting on July 5, council authorized staff to prepare a draft Protective Services Loan Authorization Bylaw for review by the Province. In accordance with Provincial legislation, it would include the maximum borrowing amount and term of the loan.

Mayor Ron Toyota says if the Town receives permission to borrow funds, the next step would be to invest in the building design, tendering and construction process. A new Fire Hall Building Advisory Select Committee would help oversee the process and make recommendations.
