Creston Valley Thunder Cats on the prowl for new head coach

The search is on for a new head coach of the Creston Valley Thunder Cats.

This comes after head coach and general manager Brad Tobin announced he was hired by the Surrey Eagles, a week after assistant coach Carter Duffin moved on. Thunder Cats President Mike Moore is already on the move to find a replacement.

“We have some very good prospects already and we’re just taking a couple more days here to see who else is out there and then we’ll be able to narrow in on who our preferred candidate will be.”

Moore shares the qualities and values he’s looking for in a new coach.

“We want a coach that’s very approachable in the community and sort of really understands the value of being integrated in the community.”

Moore notes that although the timing isn’t good for the organization, opportunities sometimes come to coaching staff at inopportune times.

“This is our third or fourth coach that we’ve moved on to junior A programming. We’re very happy and excited for Brad and wish him well.”

Brad Tobin moved up to the BCHL as Associate Coach and Assistant GM for the Surrey Eagles, a move not unfamiliar in this league according to Moore.

“We accept the fact that our league is a sort of stepping stone and we’re very happy when we have coaches that are able to be thought of for higher level jobs when they come open.”

Tobin will be here for the next two exhibition games, starting Friday, August 31 in Creston against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
