Creston Council Candidates: Dallas Magrum

Magrum is the first of many candidates running for council who will have had the opportunity to be interviewed by the mycrestonnow.com newsroom.

With that, she also came prepared with a flyer illustrating her goals and values. Though this is her first time running for councilor, Magrum has a plan which she shares.

“My first job would be to learn what services are being provided now, what services will we need in the future, and what level of service does out community expect. What do we spend to maintain the services we have now and can we find efficiencies? Armed with this information, I can then focus on the issues in my platform.”

Magrum emphasizes economic prosperity in the region in conjunction with the Creston official Community Plan. She speaks on making Creston affordable for new families and small business growth.

Effective communication is another focus Magrum wishes to bring to the table. She says the town needs to improve the spreading of information pertaining to a number of things including building development, bylaws, health and safety committees.

Another issue, and what could be described as the catalyst which brought Dallas Magrum to the council race is the fire hall.

“I know the town has existing processes in place as with all municipalities, to assess projects that are coming in. I think, somehow, it just got missed on this. We certainly do need a new fire hall and I think we can do that in a cost effective manner that is safe for everyone.”

Magrum and her husband moved from Calgary in 2011 after doing research as to which small town would fit them best. She says she loves the community and culture and does not wish to change it. Magrum also encourages citizens of Creston and the surrounding area to get a hold of people running for Council or Mayor and ask questions about their platform.

With Bradon Vigne dropping out of the race, Magrum now faces 10 opponents for the October 20 election.
