Mayor Candidates: Mary Jayne Blackmore

President of the Trails for Creston Valley Society and fresh off the success of finalizing the purchase land devoted for a riverfront park, Mary Jayne Blackmore says she has a positive vision for Creston if elected Mayor.

When asked if she would step down as President if elected, she said she would make sure there is no conflict of interest and step down to act as a director if necessary.

Blackmore said her main focus is bettering the community.

“I’ve experienced my share of conflict in the community over different beliefs and I feel strongly about following strategies which value people and still get things done.”

She also expressed that she’s grateful that her supporters see her as an individual rather than being focused on her family heritage… A topic she says is irrelevant in this election.

Blackmore said she’s happy to represent a third option in the polarized field which is mostly dominated by the fire hall debate.

She said she’s been actively listening to what’s happening behind the noise of the fire hall. However, her support for the borrowing referendum stands.

‘The Advisory Select Committee has compiled good information that is useful moving forward and my answer to that is also, yes. i think it’s scientific, well researched and put forward by a passionate group of community members who have the best interests of our town in mind.”
Disappointed that the election has become so focused on the referendum, Blackmore said she would rather see the election feature more relevant and complex issues pressing the Town of Creston.
She said the Forum hosted on Monday by the Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce did not allow candidates to take the time to give audience members a more complete analysis of who they are voting for and how they represent themselves.
Nevertheless, time is up. October 20th is the day Creston and the surrounding districts vote.
