Creston Mayor Ron Toyota has been elected as Vice Chair of the RDCK board.
Toyota says this role involves working closely with all members of the board to elevate issues regarding the RDCK which may indirectly affect Creston.
“The biggest direction for me is to work with all the board members to hopefully elevate and get regional district issues going, but indirectly, in definitely affects Creston.”
Toyota also says this new position will not conflict with his duties as mayor.
“I shouldn’t be missing any meetings because of RD meetings. I may have some other commitments but RD-wise, they try and gear it so meetings don’t conflict. Historically, regional district meetings take place Thursday and Town of Creston meetings take place Tuesday.”
If by chance Toyota is called away for important RDCK business, he says an acting mayor will assume his duties.
The role of acting mayor is shared between council, rotating every month.
