Nelson City Hall is giving away toilet bags in the hope of saving water.
Residents can install the blue bags in their toilet tanks to help offset the very low water supply from creeks.
They’re 80% lower than normal for this time of year.
Director Of Public Works Colin Innes says the bags are particularly helpful with older toilets.
Forecasts are calling for 60% less rain than usual for this fall and Innes says we are still in drought conditions until we see more substantial rain.
He recommends conserving water around the house and limiting showers.
