Some familiar fixtures in Nelson’s Queen Elizabeth Park are set for removal.
For decades, towering poplar trees have watched over the park.
But Colin innes, Director of Public Works, says they have become a safety hazard.
The eighty foot trees will be replaced with fast growing columnar oaks.
The removal is part of the city’s tree management plan to ensure it’s urban forestry remains healthy for years to come.
The park is a popular spot for baseball and for tobogganing in the winter.
