Trail RCMP say they have received 20 to 30 calls this week about a new telephone scam.Fraudsters are asking people to confirm their SIN numbers, under the guise of being government employees.
After that they will make up a fake debt, and make the victim believe that they will be the subject of legal action if they do not pay.
RCMP are reminding the public that CRA or other government agencies do not ask for payment through e-transfer or gift cards.
Anyone who has received a suspicious call like this should contact police.
