Hundreds petition RD re recycling changes

The backlash to recent changes on regional recycling has moved up a notch.

Rural residents can no longer throw blue bags filled with recycleables into large open steel bins.

They must now manually put materials into small slots on the bins that are pad-locked and that’s a major inconvenience.

Former Kaslo area Director Andy Shadrack and over 200 petitioners are demanding the RDCK engage in public consultation for a better solution because there’s no incentive anymore.

The RDCK says the changes are necessary to save all taxpayers money and so we can be part of the new provincial recycling program in future, which would save even more money.
