Man wanted for ‘serious’ offences arrested in Creston

Creston RCMP say Friday’s big police presence in town was to arrest a man wanted for “serious offences.”

While police said they can’t release many details, members of the southeast district emergency response team and a tactical armoured vehicle were called in to help arrest a man on Canyon Street.

They say the operation itself happened quickly. The man was arrested and remains in custody while police continue to investigate.

“The subject of this arrest was deemed to be a safety risk to the public and police,” Staff Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk said in a news release.

“With our primary focus being the safety of our people and community, it was determined that the safest way to execute the arrest was under the leadership of specialized tactical units with appropriate safety equipment.

“The presence of these teams in our small community would have been very apparent to many in the area of operation, who undoubtedly have questions.”

While Buliziuk did not release the name of the suspect or the charges he is facing, he said the operation was carried out safely and no one was injured.

There is no further risk to the public, he added.
