Nelson’s popular Capitol Theatre has tried to expand the amount of shows it offers but that has not boosted revenue.
This from Executive Director Stephanie Fisher who has presented their annual report to city council.
She says the Capitol wanted to offer even more choice last year but found overall the six extra shows didn’t translate into a net gain in overall ticket sales.
Fisher figures the local and regional audience can only stretch so far.
Nelson taxpayers fund 15% of the Capitol’s $445,000 dollar budget. They are requesting almost $69,000 this year. The theatre society has worked hard the last three years to nearly eliminate $53,000 in accumulated debt.
