Education a must for back country enthusiasts

A warning as we head into the long weekend… back country users beware.

This strong message from the BC Coroner’s Service and Avalanche Canada following last weekend’s fatal incident near Mcbride.

Executive Director, Gilles Valade, says safety education is essential for all winter back country recreation.

Just having the gear isn’t enough.

Valade says the Kootenay-Boundary back country is no more or less dangerous than other areas, it always depends on conditions.

Information about safety conditions, training courses and equipment can be found on-line at avalanche.ca
