Creston-area projects receive more than $817K in provincial wildfire prevention funding

The Creston area is set to benefit from more than $817,000 in provincial funding aimed at reducing wildfire risk through fuel management projects.

The funding is part of a $20 million provincial investment supporting 60 forest enhancement projects across British Columbia.

“The best wildfire is the one that never starts. The best way to protect communities is to work together to prevent them,” said Forests Minister Ravi Parmar.

“Through this investment into FESBC, we’re investing in wildfire resilience and this means local logs for local mills to create local jobs.”

In the Creston Valley, the Creston Valley Forest Corporation will receive $502,300 for wildfire mitigation work. The Lower Kootenay Indian Band is also receiving $315,000 for the Creston Airport Fuel Management project.

Elsewhere in the East Kootenay, the City of Kimberley is receiving $300,200 for the Kimberley Landscape Fuel Break Treatment Unit 11 project.

The province says the funding will help strengthen wildfire resilience, support forest health, and create economic opportunities in local communities.
