Study not only factor in ferry terminal decision: ministry

The decision whether to move the Balfour ferry terminal won’t be based solely on a feasibility study.

That’s the response from the Ministry of Transportation after a community group panned the report this week.

They called the SNC Lavalin study too “inadequate and biased” to be a useful decision-making tool.

The study suggested the best option is to move the Balfour terminal to Queens Bay.

The ministry refused an interview request but did issue a prepared statement.

They said the study was an early step in the information gathering process and not the only thing to be considered.

They’re also doing an archaeological study at Queens Bay and an environmental assessment of dredging at Balfour.

And they continue to collect public feedback until Oct. 6 — 1,500 responses have come in so far.
