A vote at tonight’s city council meeting in Castlegar could have a major impact on the city’s waste collection system.
Here’s Councilor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff.
The money saved from moving to a bi-weekly system would pay for bear resistant garbage containers for all residents.
She says if the vote passes the new system likely would not be implemented until April and there would be public education to prepare everyone for the change.
The main goal of the move would be to cut back on human-wildlife conflicts and to reduce the amount of waste heading to local landfills.
